I am a first-year DPhil student in Sociology. Prior to the doctorate, I completed my MSc in Sociology at Oxford and received my BA in International Politics from Peking University.
I am a passionate advocate for gender equality and Public Sociology. I have been working for a non-profit organisation, SheShapes, aiming at empowering females in China in their professional careers, and have managed different ways to contribute to Public Sociology, including directing and editing a short documentary and writing articles for the general audience.
My research focuses on the experience of children from mixed family backgrounds, whose parents are from different national, ethnic or cultural backgrounds. I am interested in how they form their identity when they were born to cross the boundaries of social groups, and how this identity influences their everyday life. In a broader sense, I am interested in how individuals interact with social categories, including ethnicity, nationality and gender.
