Professor Kim Kierans

Inglis Professor at the University of King’s College

Kim Kierans is an Inglis Professor at the University of King’s College, Canada (emerita), where she taught for 25 years. She also served as Vice-President academic and research from 2010-2017, and as Director of the School of Journalism from 2003-2010.
Kierans is a Senior Fellow at Massey College, University of Toronto. She also serves as vice-chairperson of the federal Independent Advisory Board on Eligibility for Journalism Tax Measures.

Prior to joining the academy in 1997 she worked as reporter, news editor, associate producer and presenter with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
She was visiting professor at the Asian Center for Journalism at Ateneo de Manila University for 15 years. Over the past 20 years she has conducted extensive journalism and media training throughout Asia and Eurasia.
She is co-author of Asia’s Media Innovators Vol.2 (2010) and co-editor of The New Journalist: Roles, Skills, and Critical Thinking (2010). Her research interests include community media, concentration of media ownership and the pedagogy of online and blended learning.
