After receiving my master’s degree from the department (then the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies) in 2017, I was awarded the Jardine-Oxford Graduate Scholarship to continue to pursue my doctoral degree back at the department in 2018. Broadly speaking, my doctoral project concerns China’s changing models of development at both national and subnational levels. Specifically, it examines the comparative-historical development of China’s major “zone cities,” such as Shenzhen, Shanghai, Tianjin, and potentially Baoding, as the focal points of the country ‘s “Reform and Opening-Up” over the past four decades, in order to find out some valuable developmental lessons for both the country itself and the rest of the world. Prior to my postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford, I graduated from New College at the University of Toronto, with the highest CGPA in Social Sciences (major in Economics and double minors in Sociology and Psychology) for the class of 2016.
